In preparation for the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, we invite you all to join us for the “kwindicina”
The “Fifteen-day” devotion “Kwindicina” is a devotion to Our Lady as a preparation to the Solemnity of the her Assumption into heaven, it was included in the Maltese Ritual of Sacraments and Popular devotions issued in 1967. We, as a Nation, are very obliged to the Feast of the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin. Wishing that this devotion reaches, as many devotees of Our Lady as possible, we decided to publish these beautiful thoughts adapted from Fr. A. Dimech’s book published in May 2002.
These will be posted on a daily basis as from 31st July and we hope that you will be in great numbers in joining us for this unique veneration.

Mary The Woman Who Believed
DAY ONE of 15-day devotion in veneration to the Assumption of Mary.
Together with St. Elizabeth, we address Mary: “Blessed is she who believed there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45)
Mary at her Annunciation models faith for us. Mary trusted in God’s promises, was obedient to God’s word of invitation in her life, surrendered to the mystery before her, and committed herself to be part of God’s plan of salvation in Jesus.

Mary – Mother of God, so filled with grace as to surpass the grace of all the Saints.
“You have surpassed every creature,” sings St. Sophronius. “What can be more sublime than your joy, O Virgin Mother?What more noble than this grace, which you alone have received from God?”
To this St. Germanus adds: “Your honour and dignity surpass the whole of creation; your greatness places you above the angels.”
And St. John Damascene goes so far as to say: “Limitless is the difference between God’s servants and His Mother.”

O God, who wanted the Blessed Virgin Mary to be the mother of your Son, so that you could offer to all your people, the benefits of eternal salvation; grant us the grace that we feel the power of Her prayers for us, we who received through her, the One who gave us our life, Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
