On 15April (Divine Mercy Sunday), 2012, the Dominican Community, embracing Pastoral Centres in North Sunshine, Yarraville and Hoppers Crossing decided to build a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland, and the Divine Mercy for all Polish people.
A strong relationship has always united Polish people throughout the world with the faith of Our Lady of Czestochowa, The Black Madonna. Our nation puts great trust and hope in her intercession and care. We entrust all matters: national, family, professional and personal ones to Her
Pope John Paul II addressed to all Polish People during the consecration of the Basilica in Lagiewniki (17 August 2002), asking us to ” convey the Fire of Mercy to the whole world” – In response to this call by Blessed John Paul II, this chapel has been established.
On 18.05.2013, during a multi-ethnic pilgrimage to Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, the chapel was officially opened by Father Dominik Jalocha OP. The chapel was solemnly blessed on 3 November, 2013, by Fr Krzysztof Poplawski OP, Prior Provincial of Polish Province of the Order of Preachers, in the presence of clergy, nuns and the faithful.
The whole project was made possible thanks to the great kindness of Good God, and thanks to the extraordinary generosity of many people who supported us every day with prayer, material assistance and generous gifts of the heart and hands . Let the chapel reflect on the people who established it, and on the times in which it was built. Let it serve them all, as well as future generations who will live after us.
