Jesus falls under the weight of the Cross
We adore You O Christ and we praise You (Genuflexion)
R: Because by your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world
A reading from the Prophet Isiah: (53:4-9).
It was our weaknesses that he carried, our sufferings that he endured, while we thought of him as stricken, as one struck by God and afflicted. But he was pierced for our offences, crushed for our sins; upon him was the punishment that makes us whole, by his strips we were healed. We had all l gone astray like sheep, each following his own way. Though he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not his mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter or a sheep before the shearers, he was silent and uttered no cry. When he was cut off from the land of the living, smitten for the sin of the people, a grave was assigned him among the wicked and a burial place with evildoers.
Reflection
Quite often, due to our weakness, we too yielded to temptation and fell in sin. We were not strong enough to resist the devil, to control our unguarded thought and word and to extinguish our lustful desires. But Jesus, Lord of heaven and earth, has earned for us the grace to rise up from our spiritual death and keep on following him.
Silence…..Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
Let us pray
Lord Jesus Christ, I beseech you, do not abandon me when , in my weakness I give in to sin; help me to deplore my past offences, and to resist temptation in the future, to subdue my evil inclinations and to cultivate the virtues proper to my state. Amen.
