Jesus stripped of his clothes
We adore You O Christ and we praise You (Genuflexion)
R: Because by your holy Cross You have redeemed the world
A reading from the Gospel according to John (19:20-24).
Many of the Jews read the inscription put on the cross, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write the King of Jews, but, “This man said “I am the King of the Jews. But Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier. They also took the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see who will get it.” This was to fulfil what the Scripture says, “They divided my clothes among themselves and for my clothing they cast lots.”
Reflection:
Jesus wanted to atone, also, for the sins of those have lost all sense of Christian modesty. When a person makes no more distinction between good and evil, he cannot live any more according to his human dignity and as creature endowed with intelligence, destined to the joy that knows no ending and perfect bliss in heaven . Silence…..Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be
Let us pray
Lord Jesus Christ, stripped of everything, You stood exposed to the jeers and contempt of the people whom You loved. Let my vices be done away with, all my lustful desires be extinguished and all actions, whether in dress or in manner be controlled, so that no person will offend God due to my misbehaviour. Amen.
